Ready, Set, Teach: How to Plan Your Course with Ease

Content
Instructors are experts in their fields, but most have never learned how to teach. Some people think great teachers are born, not made; this is an unfortunate misconception. Anyone can learn how to be an engaging and inspiring instructor. This course aims to give you the most helpful tools for bringing your teaching to the next level – whether you are an absolute novice or already have some teaching experience.
This course will give you more clarity and confidence as you plan your next semester. You will learn a systematic approach to planning classes that is both efficient and effective. A good plan lays the foundation for engaging students, helping them study, but also for assessing and grading their work fairly. However, a good plan is also agile and allows for last-minute adaptations.
In this half-day virtual course, you will be guided through the process of writing a syllabus for your course (or a hypothetical course, if you’re not currently teaching). An engaging syllabus is a great tool for course planning, brings instructors clarity, and can be very effective at motivating students right from the start of the semester. No matter your background, no matter what kind of course you will teach, you should walk away from this course with concrete new ideas for planning your next course.
Learning Objections:
Participants plan their courses effectively and lay a foundation for designing concrete units, engaging students, as well as grading their work fairly and transparently. Their course plans are concrete enough to be useful, but flexible enough to allow for adaptations.
